And now that I’ve searched the internet for GIFs to accurately describe my first year at UBC, its time for wonderfuliciousness to occur~
Getting the acceptance email from UBC
Waking up at 5:30am for Imagine Day
Playing all those icebreaker games
Once classes have started
Science Frosh
Getting fantabulous marks on my first midterms
Getting not so fantabulous marks on my second round of midterms
Joining Food Society, and later UBC Cooking Club
Meeting new people
Chilling at Ladha with my group of friends
Just before Dec Finals
Seeing my first term marks
Recovering from all the trolling done on facebook
…..getting drunk for the first time
First Year Dances!
When Travers Roy Wimble (Chairbo) died
8am Math
Derping around and procrastinating on my term paper……..
…..until I realize its the day before its due…..
…..finally managing to finish it 2 hours before it’s to be handed in
My Physics TA…..
….until I find out he’s married
Pumping myself up for Apr finals
and once again looking at my marks and realizing I’ve fallen a long long way
My epiphany that I should transfer to LFS and major in food science
Not getting chosen for MUG leader, instead being put in Welcome Team
Getting into the Explore Program and heading off to Quebec for the summer
Getting elected Events Coordinator (FoodSoc), Cooking Coordinator (Cooking Club) and Undergrad Rep (Tamil Students Association)
Realizing a whole year just passed and I didn’t even feel it
tada :)

PFFFT HAHAHAHA WHO AM I KIDDING I HATE WRITING PAPERS.
But seriously, when I wrote my humongous term paper for ENGL 112 I was half dead. We were supposed to write out a proposal with our intended topic and key points, and my topic was related to the Indian music industry and movie industry. Shortly after writing my proposal, I forgot about it.
That is, until the day before my paper was due.
I frantically started looking for external sources and typing up my introduction. All this, starting at midnight. So technically, I started my essay on the day it was due.
I worked from 12 to 4, slept for 3 hours, and then hightailed it to UBC where I could keep on working. The hours seemed to drag on as I found new ways to integrate what I had managed to find from the depths of the UBC summons. I finally finished and printed my essay at around 3pm, handed it in, and went home to sleep.
I got a B+ on that paper, and I swore that from then on I would never torture myself like that again.
LOL who am I kidding, I’m gonna do the same stuff all over again~

And yet I still find time to go on Reddit. It’s not my fault, its reading all the interesting stories on AskReddit threads.
SUS Spring elections are upon us, and I am running for AMS rep. Yes, in a previous post I said I was going to go for general officer, but then I decided that I might as well get experience in campaigning, and so I applied for the AMS Rep position. What surprised (and scared) me was all of the epic people who looked like they had their stuff together. And here I am blathering on about events for the campus community. Seeing all of the accomplished people gave me a reality check :(
If I do get elected, I’ll be doing a lot of learning about how our system works.
I went through MUG leader interviews the other week. They were actually quite chill, and I think I did well. My main motivation in becoming a MUG leader is to pass down all my trolling secrets to the young ones. And not abandon them like my MUG leader did to me :(.
In other news, I am acing BIOL 112. Literally, I got 100% in the first midterm and 90% in the second midterm. And its not only bio, all my other course marks are higher than last term. I think I really am learning something ^_^
Oh and I applied for rez. And got 700 on the waiting list. Well now its more like 650, which is still good. I really really really want to live on rez, because of all the fun stuff and epic campus life *_*
I’LL BE BACK, SO UM

I tried abstaining from blogging in an effort to improve my grades. This was working until I realized that I’m going to be derping no matter what because of facebook and reddit and 9gag. So here I am, back to world of the written word.
I have so much and yet one post wouldn’t be able to say it all.
That, and my BIOL 112 midterm is tomorrow.

Positrons are so much fun~ They’re very positive when it comes to looking for positions to fill………
-cough-
Anyways.
Applications for MUG leaders, JumpStart Leaders, RAs and more are out! I plan to apply to EVERY SINGLE ONE (not really) so I can impart my ideas of world domination to the younger generation. Bohohohoho :)
MUG Leader
This is the position that I really want to get. My MUG leader was pretty spirited and enthusiastic, but I didn’t really hear from her after Imagine day. Then I found out that our MUG leaders were supposed to have contacted us later on in the term. I vow not to do what my MUG leader did, and instead make sure my lil muggies are happy and not alone.
Probability of getting it: 90%
Science Frosh Leader
Technically, this position isn’t out yet, but this post is about positions so HA :). Since my frosh team was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (It was a video game themed frosh)(apparently they made TMNT into a video game back when we were little), my frosh leader brought pipe cleaners and foam pads so we could be ninjas too :D. The ninja’ing worked, and we got 3rd place. I aspire to lead my team of noobs to victory, which is why I’m applying for frosh leader. Frosh volunteer doesn’t sound bad either.
Probability of getting it: 75%
JumpStart Leader
I have a friend from Singapore. I love trolling her about the cold and the wind in Vancouver, and have sworn to make her love the neverending drizzle by the end of her 4 (5?) years here. The fact that I might have a chance to do that to lots of people from around the world makes me even more happy :D
Probability of getting in: 60%
SUS
Specifically, I want to be either General Officer or the rep for Integrated Sciences (my major~). I didn’t really have the chance to be part of student government because it was all a popularity contest :T. This time…….well it’s more about how well you know the people in your faculty. Given that I post in the UBC Science FB page a lot, and about half the people I met so far know me as “the girl from Facebook”, I’m pretty sure I have a good chance of winning next year.
Probability of getting it: 80%
The thing with applying to all these positions is all of the interviews and the resume building and the references. I feel like it’s all worth it, because even if I fail in everything, I’ll have had the chance to be in all those interviews and to build up my confidence.

On a chilly winter day, one of the best ways to relax is with a nice bowl of broth on the burner, fresh meats and veggies all around the table, and the conversation of good friends. Then you cook all that wonderful food in the broth while sipping plum juice and discussing lofty topics.
Man I wish last friday was like that. Instead, it was chaos :( Read the rest of this entry »
